Education and Training

Florida Assisted Living Association is a leading provider of quality education and training for assisted living professionals and adult family care home providers in Florida.  FALA offers the ALF core training, extended congregate care training, adult family care home training, law and rule updates, assisted living continuing education and the state mandated staff training.  Our trainers are certified through the Department of Elder Affairs and possess many years of experience in the assisted living profession.

Assisted Living Facility Core Training (26 hours)
This program covers the required training for Florida ALF Admininstrators as required by Florida Statute Chapter 429.52 for assisted living administrators. Completion of this course is required before sitting for the state ALF Core Exam. The course covers Florida law, rule, and ALF administrator guidelines necessary to run a licensed assisted living facility.   This course is approved by CE Broker for nursing home administrators and nurses.

Extended Congregate Care Training (4 hours)
The administrator and extended congregate care supervisor, if different from the administrator must complete 4 hours of initial training in extended congregate care prior to the facility's receiving its extended congregate care license or within 3 months of beginning employement in the facility (58A-5.0191(7)).  Approved by CE Broker for nurses.

Core Updates (2 hours)
Core updates are offered in July, August, September and October after the new laws are published.  The updates provides the attendee with all of the changes to the law (and rule, if completed) during that year's legislative session.

Core Refresher (12 hours)
The Core Refresher is for those individuals that have completed core training and wish to 'refresh' key elements of the law and rule.  If it's been more than 4 years since you took Core this is the class for you.

Continuing Education
Florida Statute 429.52(4) requires administrators participate in continuing education for a minimum of 12 contact hours every 2 years.
FALA provides continuing education during the Annual Conference in August each year.  The conference location rotates each year from the east coast to the west coast.  Our local chapters provide continuing education during some of their meetings as well.  You may take the 'Core Refresher Course' as well to satisfy the 12 hour requirement.

Basic Caregiver Education (Staff In-Service Training)
This is the state mandated staff training required under F.A.C. 58A-5.0191(2).  FALA, in partnership with Vanguard Advanced Pharmacy Systems, offers all of the state mandated staff training at affordable discounted prices to members.

Adult Family Care Home Training (12 hours)
This program meets the training requirements for adult family care home training per F.A.C. 58A-14.008(4)(a).  This requirement must be met prior to accepting any residents, or for provicers who already have persons residing in the home that will be considered residents, prior to licensing.

Adult Family Care Home Continuing Education (3 hours)
The AFCH provider shall annually obtain 3 hours of continuing education in topics related to the care and treatment of frail elders or disabled adults, or the management and administration of an adult family care home. (F.A.C. 58A-14.008(4)(b)).
