Shaddrick A. Haston, CEO

In April of 2014, The Florida Assisted Living Association named Shaddrick A. Haston, Esq. as its Chief Executive Officer after several years as the head of the Agency for Health Care Administration’s Assisted Living Unit. As the head of the Agency’s licensure unit, Shad was responsible for the licensure of all assisted living facilities, adult family care homes and adult day care centers in Florida. Prior to that, he spent several years as an attorney handling nursing home, home health, hospital, clinical laboratory and assisted living cases for the Agency for Health Care Administration.

Shad frequently advises owners and operators on compliance, health care licensure, and best practices for health care facility operation. Shad also serves as a consultant on the expansion of existing facilities; assists with initial licensure applications; and assist with change of ownerships to ensure regulatory compliance.

Shad served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman and received a Bachelors of Health Science from Campbell University. After graduation from Campbell, he attended Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he received his Juris Doctorate. He serves on the State Plan Advisory Group on Aging, the Leon County Contractor’s Licensing and Examination Board, the Executive Committee for the Florida Bar’s Health Law Section, the Florida Bar’s Continuing Education Committee, and is a member of the Tallahassee Barristers Association. Shad also holds the distinction of being AV Rated by Martindale Hubbell.

As the Chief Executive Officer for the Association, Shad answers directly to the President and Board of Directors; responsible for the implementation of the daily functions and operations of the Association; establishes and maintains effective organizational structure for the Association office and staff; works with staff to distinguish member needs and to identify opportunities for new programs and new directions for the organization; serves as spokesperson for the Association and assisted living; meets with members and prospective members; assists members with law and rule questions; participates in professional coalitions with other related associations.

Susan Langston 
COO/Director of Government Affairs
As COO, Susan is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the association; serves as the point person for our national affiliates; coordinates meeting locations for the association’s meetings and conferences; serves as conference manager during FALA’s Annual Conferences; and oversees the daily operations of the office.  As Director of Government Affairs, Susan is responsible for advocacy efforts on behalf of FALA at the Florida Legislature, including policy development, legislative drafting and analysis, development of advocacy strategies, lobbying, FALA grassroots efforts, research and development of advocacy materials, and legislative bill tracking and reporting.  She coordinates all FALPAC efforts and activities.  Susan also follows all legislative and regulatory activities that affect assisted living and distributes communications on such activities to the FALA membership.  She works directly with the Legislative Committee and the Board of Directors.

Alberta Granger
Director of Professional Development/Disaster Coordinator

Alberta Granger serves as the Director of Professional Development for FALA and is knowledgeable in the regulations and laws pertaining to assisted living and adult family care homes. She provides assistance to FALA members with regulatory questions, provides consulting services upon request and develops curriculum for assisted living education. Alberta also works directly with the Executive Director on grant research and maintaining FALA manuals, quality toolbox and makes sure guides are revised and updated. In addition to her regular duties, Alberta is a FALA trainer providing the ALF Administrator Core training, Core updates and the Adult Family Care Home training.  Alberta is the designated Disaster Coordinator for FALA.  Certified ALF Administrator.

 

Tammi Wathen
Director of Membership
Tammi is responsible for maintaining the member database, responding to membership inquiries, membership billing, and coordinating production of membership materials.  She also serves as the registrar for events, such as the Annual Conference & Tradeshow and Legislative Days.  Tammi is the staff liaison for the Membership Committee and also serves as one of the staff liaisons for the FALA Regions/Chapters, assisting in Chapter development and helping with Chapter issues as they may arise. 

Sharon Collier
Education Manager

Sharon is reponsible for registrations for all training programs, scheduling of classes, and management of all educational materials. She serves as the first point of contact for callers and assists with questions about assisted living and adult family care home training. Sharon also serves as one of the staff liaisons for FALA's Region/Chapters and is responsible for mailing chapter meeting notices. Certified ALF Administrator since 2000; worked as an ALF Administrator for 10 years before coming to work for FALA.
