Shaddrick A. Haston
Chief Executive Officer

In April of 2014, The Florida Assisted Living Association named Shaddrick A. Haston, Esq. as its Chief Executive Officer after several years as the head of the Agency for Health Care Administration’s Assisted Living Unit. As the head of the Agency’s licensure unit, Shad was responsible for the licensure of all assisted living facilities, adult family care homes and adult day care centers in Florida. Prior to that, he spent several years as an attorney handling nursing home, home health, hospital, clinical laboratory and assisted living cases for the Agency for Health Care Administration.

Shad frequently advises owners and operators on compliance, health care licensure, and best practices for health care facility operation. Shad also serves as a consultant on the expansion of existing facilities; assists with initial licensure applications; and assist with change of ownerships to ensure regulatory compliance. Shad also serves as an expert witness as needed on regulatory issues pertaining to assisted living.

Shad served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman and received a Bachelors of Health Science from Campbell University. After graduation from Campbell, he attended Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he received his Juris Doctorate. He serves on the State Plan Advisory Group on Aging, the Leon County Contractor’s Licensing and Examination Board, the Executive Committee for the Florida Bar’s Health Law Section, the Florida Bar’s Continuing Education Committee, and is a member of the Tallahassee Barristers Association. Shad also holds the distinction of being AV Rated by Martindale Hubbell.
 
As the Chief Executive Officer for the Association, Shad answers directly to the President and Board of Directors; responsible for the implementation of the daily functions and operations of the Association; establishes and maintains effective organizational structure for the Association office and staff; works with staff to distinguish member needs and to identify opportunities for new programs and new directions for the organization; serves as spokesperson for the Association and assisted living; meets with members and prospective members; assists members with law and rule questions; participates in professional coalitions with other related associations.

Veronica Catoe
Chief Operating Officer
Veronica serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the association. As COO, Veronica responsibilities will include the overall operation of the Association in conjunction with the CEO. In addition to those duties, she has the primary responsibility of directing all public policy development and dissemination serving as point person for legislative issues. Building trust and collaborating with the association members, members of the state Senate and House of Representatives and other industry associations and organizations. 

Veronica has a degree in accounting, is a Licensed Practical Nurse and has over twenty years in the health care. She joined Florida Assisted Living Association after working in senior living for over ten years as a Resident Services Director, Executive Director, Regional Director of Operations and lastly Vice President of New Operations servicing multiple states.  Prior to that, she worked in home health, 
long term care, and acute care settings in clinical and administrative roles since 1994.  Her experience will provide current and new members with an added resource.
 
Alberta Granger
Director of Professional Development/Disaster Coordinator
Alberta Granger serves as the Director of Professional Development for FALA and is knowledgeable in the regulations and laws pertaining to assisted living and adult family care homes. She provides assistance to FALA members with regulatory questions, provides consulting services upon request and develops curriculum for assisted living education. Alberta also works directly with the Executive Director on grant research and maintaining FALA manuals, quality toolbox and makes sure guides are revised and updated. In addition to her regular duties, Alberta is a FALA trainer providing the ALF Administrator Core training, Core updates and the Adult Family Care Home training.  Alberta is the designated Disaster Coordinator for FALA and also serves as an assisted living expert witness.

Tammi Wathen 
Director of Membership
As Director of Membership, Tammi is responsible for maintaining the member database, member recruitment and retention, responding to membership inquiries, issuing annual dues billing, coordinating production of membership materials, maintaining the website Online Member Directory, and the publishing of FALA's Annual Membership Directory. She also serves as the registrar for FALA events, such as the Annual Conference & Tradeshow and Legislative Days.  Tammi is the staff liaison for the Membership Committee and also serves as one of the staff liaisons for FALA's Regions/Chapters, assisting in Chapter development, assisting Chapter leaders as needed, and the publishing of Chapter meeting notices. Tammi has 25 years of association administration experience.

Sharon Collier
Education Manager
Sharon is responsible for registrations for all training programs, scheduling of classes, and management of all educational materials. She serves as the first point of contact for callers and assists with questions about assisted living and adult family care home training. Sharon also serves as one of the staff liaisons for FALA's Region/Chapters and is responsible for mailing chapter meeting notices. Certified ALF Administrator since 2000; worked as an ALF Administrator for 10 years before coming to work for FALA.

Karen Klena
Special Events Coordinator
Karen is a part time employee with FALA, responsible for helping with special events focusing primarily on the annual Conference and Trade Show.  Karen served as the Trade Show Manager with FALA from 2007-2014. In her free time, she spends many hours on her bicycle riding all over Florida and the rest of the country, and is a dedicated volunteer for the Florida Greenways and Trails Foundation.  A main concern is keeping seniors active with healthy lifestyles and physical fitness.
