  • FALA and the members we serve comprise the largest body of resident advocates in Florida.
  • Florida Statute Chapter 429.01(2) provides that assisted living communities should be operated and regulated as residential environments with supportive services and not as medical or nursing facilities.
  • Assisted living communities range in size from a small 2 bed home to a 495 bed community.
  • Assisted living communities are a mixture of private pay, optional state supplementation (OSS), and those that participate in the ALE Wiaver or the Nursing Home Diversion Program.
  • There is a great deal of diversity in assisted living and therefore we must be cautious in developing 'one-size fits all' regulations.
  • We are committed to providing quality services to our residents and ensuring that they have a safe environment.
  • To be responsive to consumers, we believe that oversight of assisted living must remains at the state government level rather than with the federal bureaucracy.
  • Autonomy, independence, choice, dignity and customer satisfaction are paramount.

  • Write the letter on your company or community's letterhead
  • State the purpose of your letter in the first paragraph
  • Keep the letter to one page
  • Address only one issue per letter
  • Keep a copy of the letter in your files and send a copy to the FALA office

Grassroots in your community
Invite a legislator to special events at your community.  You represent something very important to legislators - VOTES!  Remember, you are their constituent.  They want to hear from you.  It's up to you to educate legislators so when they come to Tallahassee they understand assisted living and our issues.
